Certification Levels and Criteria
Tarot Associate (TA)
-
List meaning of all seventy-eight cards, upright and reversed.
-
Render a one-card, a three-card and a five to seven-card reading to the
satisfaction of your certifying agent.

Acknowledge and follow the ABTC Code of Ethics in all reading situations. The reader
may add to the Code of Ethics, but not decrease.
Tarot Professional (TP)
-
Perform TA criteria.
-
Produce proof of having performed at least twenty professional readings.
(by way of letters from bookstore, church, wherever you perform your readings;
testimonials; etc.)

Render a greater then eight-card reading to the satisfaction of your certifying agent.

Continue to improve understanding of Tarot and professional standards:
-
through documented attendance of at least one advanced level Tarot seminar;
-
through reading and implementing ideas and methods in 2 advanced level
Tarot books (requiring written reports on those ideas);
-
develop curriculum for an advanced level workshop/class. (Contact ABTC for
updated list of acceptable material.)

Tarot Master (TM)
-
Show mastery of TP criteria.
-
Publish at least seven tarot-related articles in an accepted Tarot
publication (tarot book review, tarot deck review, scholarly Tarot research, etc).

Take at least 6 hours of Tarot CEU's and provide verification.
-
Serve at least 6 months as a TP.
-
Produce one of the following:
-
curriculum for teaching an advanced level tarot class;
-
book manuscript for an advance level book;
-
design a deck and/or write the interpretations for the LWB (Little White Book)
of a deck;
-
write meditations, poems, etc for each card.

Tarot Educator (TE)
-
Serve at least one year as TM
-
Provide instruction to at least twenty-five students to the level acceptable for
certification; or, acting as a Certifying Agent, certify a minimum of
twenty-five applicants.

Publish at least two articles on educating students, clients, or planning workshops.
-
Take at least 6 hours of Tarot CEU’s and provide verification.
Tarot Sage (TS)
-
Serve at least one year as TE
-
Write a paper describing a service performed for the National or International
Tarot Community to be presented to and accepted by the ABTC Board of Directors.
Examples of service that would merit certification might include, but
are not limited to:
-
presentation at either national, regional or local workshops/conference;
-
organize and run a local tarot society with a minimum longevity of 2 years;
-
publishing a Tarot book (non-vanity publishing);
-
organize and execute a Tarot conference (minimum of 3 speakers)
The ranks of Tarot Master and above require a yearly maintenance of a minimum of 3
CEU's with documentation to the ABTC. $5 fee for record keeping and
maintaining active certification yearly.
The American Board for Tarot Certification reserves the right to revoke present certification
or refuse certification for any criteria offering.
